What is Lane Departure Warning?

If you’re like most Walla Walla drivers, buying a new vehicle that’s built with advanced safety features is a top priority. One such feature you can bring home to Tri-Cities by opting for a new Honda is Lane Departure Warning. But what is Lane Departure Warning? Lane Departure Warning is a sophisticated safety feature that’s designed to help drivers avoid collisions that result from incidentally drifting from their lane.

This feature is built into the Honda Sensing® safety suite, which is standard on most models and offered on others. Wondering, “How does LDW work?” Find that answer and more with our expert team below!

How Does LDW Work?

Now that we’ve answered the question, “What is Lane Departure Warning,” you’re likely curious about how this system functions. So, how does LDW work? This system uses cameras located near the rearview mirror to detect lane markings as you travel throughout Dayton. Should your wheels drift past the lane markers, the flashing indicator will begin to beep, and it will alert you to recenter yourself in your lane. In some instances, your steering wheel and seat may even vibrate to draw your attention. This system works to prevent collisions from:

  • A vehicle sticking out too far in an adjoining lane
  • Sideswiping
  • A rollover
  • And more

When you drive a Honda, this system is activated as soon as you fire up the engine. Competing models may require you to manually trigger the system, which can be hard to remember to do before every drive. It’s also important to note that this system won’t turn off when you’re using your turn signal.

Lane Departure Warning Options

Not only does this system work hard to keep you safe, but it also offers customization so you can have greater peace of mind behind the wheel. You can select your personalized feedback, warning types, and more:

  • Haptic feedback warnings like seat and wheel vibrations
  • Visual alerts with a flashing lane marking symbol
  • Adjustable audible warning levels
  • The ability to disable the system
  • Highway edge recognition

Lane Departure Warning is not the only advanced feature you can enjoy while piloting a Honda vehicle. As part of the Honda Sensing® suite, LDW works in conjunction with the following features to keep each College Place drive safe and secure:

  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
